In the Disney version of Snow White, there was a princess named Snow White. Both of her parents died and her and the kingdom were left with her evil stepmother. Everyday her stepmother would ask her talking mirror who the fairest one of all was and he would reply to please her. This went on for quite awhile until one day the mirror told the evil stepmother that Snow White was the fairest of the land. She immediately sent someone to kill her. The huntsman could not kill Snow White because he knew it was wrong so instead of bringing back her heart to the stepmother he brought back a pig's heart.
Snow White gets lost in the forest that she was taken to by the huntsman. She finds animals who lead her to what she thinks is an abandoned cottage. She falls asleep and seven dwarves come back to their home realizing someone was in it. They thought Snow White was a monster until they saw her and saw her ability to cook and clean for them. The openly let her stay so
she could hide from her stepmother.
The mirror tells the stepmother that Snow White is still alive. The queen puts a potion on herself that turns her into an old lady. Then she creates an apple that will put whoever eats into an eternity of sleep. The only way Snow White would be able to be cured would be from "loves first kiss". The Queen thinks that when the dwarvesfind her, they will think she is dead and unknowingly bury her alive. The evil stepmother goes to the cottage when the dwarves left for mining and gives her the poisoned apple. The animals from the forest recognize the Queen and quickly went and told the dwarves. They all chased her until they trapped her at a cliff. As the Queen tried to throw a rock at the dwarves, her plan backfires and she falls down the cliff. When the dwarves got home they found Snow White, thinking she was dead. Instead of burying her they put her in a glass coffin above ground. All of the forest animals kept watch after Snow White at all times. A prince that she previously knew showed up to her coffin. The prince kisses her and breaks the spell. Snow White wakes up and lives happily ever after with her prince.
History
Snow White was thought to be created in 16th century
It was published by Brothers Grimm in the beginning of the 19th century. This story was different from the Disney one. The stepmother tried to kill her three times instead of once and the dwarves made Snow White work for their protection. There are other differences but the plot is still similiar.
For Disney, Snow White was the film that started it all in 1937. He had made short films about Mickey Mouse but the competition began to increase. He knew he had to do something over the top to get people paying attention to Disney again. When he decided to do an hour movie about "dwarves" people were not intrigued. Walt Disney had to mortgage his house and studio, so if the movie was a fail he would be left with nothing. Luckily, Snow White ended up being "The Greatest Movie Ever Made" for four years. It is still known today as one of the best animated films there ever was.
It is also thought that Snow White came from a true story about a girl sent off to live with her stepmother who hated her. Margarete Van Waldeck fell in love with a very rich man. She was later poisoned because politically, it was not right for a poor girl and a wealthy man to be together. It was thought that her stepmother had poisoned Margarete. Margarete lived near a mines where young children had to work. The conditions were so bad that it disturbed their growth, causing them to look like dwarves. This all happened in 1553, right around the time Snow White was thought to be made.

In the Grimm's version, the Prince sees Snow White but does not kiss her. Instead, he wants her body because he thinks she is beautiful. When the dwarves take the coffin off the apple in Snow White's mouth falls out and then she awakens. In Disney's version the Prince wants to kiss her because they are true love.
In the Grimm's version, the evil stepmother was not killed. She was forced to wear hot iron shoes and dance in them until she burned herself to death. In the Disney version the evil Queen fell down a cliff.
Another difference is in the Grimm's story, Snow White is tricked three times by her stepmother. The third time was with the apple. In Disney's the only trick the stepmother had was the poisonous apple.
The differences between the two are there because Disney did not want his movie to be violent or gruesome for his younger audience.
Interpretation
In the Middle Ages this fairytale was liked because during that time many people thought women were unpredictable. People also thought that it was necessary for women to be maintained by a male because women were thought to be in need of control. This story shows two women, Snow White who was sweet and innocent and than the stepmother who was very evil and victimizing. It was said that women with men were like Snow White and women without ended up like the stepmother.
Allusion
It is thought that the apple that was given to Snow White by her evil stepmother is linked to the apple from Adam and Eve. For both stories the apple represents temptation and sin.
In the Grimm's version, when the stepmother tricked Snow White three times, it represented the saying "three times is a charm".
Modern Adaptations
There have been books that have rewritten the story of Snow White. Some of them are "Snow, Glass, Apples" writte
n by Neil Gaiman and another short story called "Red as Blood" written by Tanith Lee.
In 2012 there was a music video by Ivi Adamou to her song called "La La Love" that had a story plot of Snow White.
Also in 2012 a movie called "Snow White and the Huntsman" came out. Kristen Stewart played Snow White and Chris Hemsworth played the Huntsman. Sydney White is another movie that was made in 2007. It is a modern day version of Snow White about a freshmen in college (played by Amanda Bynes) tries to get in a sorority. She is kicked out and forced to live with 7 "dorks" as the try to take down her former sorority.

She cooked and cleaned for them until the word got out that Serena was living there. Serena's stepmom hired someone to sell apples right next to the house that Serena was living in. But when Serena went to go buy an apple, the person would give her a special one that was poisoned. When the man came to sell the apples, Serena waved him off of her property and never ate one. The seven college boys immediately called the police and got her arrested. Serena's old boyfriend came and picked her up, and they lived happily ever after.
